What do you do when someone gives you a real ancient (XI Century) bronze Byzantine cross and a lot of IV and V Century Roman coins? You make them into a mosaic incorporating inspirations from the famous Galla Placida Mausoleum mosaic in Ravenna and images from the Basilica of San Apollinare in Class in the next town.

The cross image inspired me to put with it 30 genuine Roman “pieces of silver” (actually bronze) coins in a mosaic I am calling “Betrayal” alluding to the Bible story of the betrayal of Jesus.
